It’s Hunting Season

It’s Hunting Season

It is that time of year again!

It’s hunting season, and although my sons-in-law think it is great, Cinder Ella, my little dog, does not! Don’t get me wrong – she loves to hunt! What Cinder does NOT like, is the sound of a gun!

Every shot of a gun upsets my poppet 😔 She instinctively recognizes the danger. Her tail goes down, and immediately, Cinder runs for me and stays by my side, those adorable brown eyes consistently looking up at me for reassurance that I am with her. By my side, she is safe and able to enjoy her time. Why? Because I love her, and she knows this.

Others have tried to distract my wee furry friend, and to bolster her confidence with their distractions, but she cannot be assuaged by them. Cinder knows where she is safe, and in whom she can place her trust. She knows, from the test of time, the one who cares for her.

Would I say my pup is weak or unwise in her decision to regard gun shots as a sign of danger? No. I tend to think she is being smart. I love her and want to protect her, so having her by my side is a great idea during hunting season. I am also reassured that I raised her well, by seeing her confidence in my presence and my protection.

It is always hunting season for the devil…and I, as well as you, would be wise to be on the alert!

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

“Be alert”: quick to notice any unusual and potentially dangerous or difficult circumstances; vigilant.

Do you hear the warning “shots”, and make sure to keep safe, or do you take your chances? All too often, I ignore the inner warnings and get wounded… We, too, have the “instinct”, aka the Holy Spirit, telling us to flee – it is up to me, it is up to you, whether or not to listen and obey.

Be “sober”, serious, sensible…

“Your enemy prowls” – restlessly and stealthily in search of prey…  How does a hunter know how to hunt? He knows the weaknesses of that which he desires to kill.

Know your enemy and his schemes, or else you will fall prey. The hunted know their enemy, and only when they are not on guard do they fall.

“Looking for someone to devour” – quickly, eagerly, wanting to completely destroy… Do not be deceived, Satan wants to completely destroy you and me!

And most importantly, do I really know the One who cares for me? Am I staying very close to Him? Am I confident in His care, in His love for me, and in His best intentions for me? I, and you, who are more precious to Him than my fur baby is to me…

Do I know Him enough to trust Him? Spend time with Him. Look to Him. Stay close.  Stay under God’s mighty hand. Stand firm in the faith.

It’s hunting season, alright. Every day, my friend.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” 1 Peter 5:6-9
So let God work His will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and He’ll be there in no time.” James 4:7 MSG
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you...” Psalm 91:9-10

It’s Hunting Season, but not for me!
