With years of experience volunteering with children and young people, as well as working in the home care field with people of different ages with varying disabilities and illnesses, I had the desire to further my studies to include the Community and Developmental Services Worker certification. With this solid base from which to work in the field, my hope and goal is to work with those with developmental disabilities in the community.
Although I have demonstrated leadership over the years by leading programs for children, I have also valued collaboration and teamwork. A strong leader should not only lead by example of servanthood but also be humble enough to admit weakness and accept help and wisdom from others. A leader is not a one-man show; they need a great team.
Having been successful in business and office management, I am proficient in organizational and time management skills, am self-motivated and disciplined, and purpose to follow established procedures.
My artistic side has given me the strength of creative thinking, which benefits innovative problem-solving.
I feel that I have been working towards this dream goal my whole life, and I simply see myself as someone who consistently learns, strives to stay empathetic, keeps a soft heart, and advocates for those I help. In the not-so-distant future, I see myself helping exceptional children and being the one who guides placement students into their prospective roles.

Project Sample: Community Building Report
This report is about researching the different community-building services in my area. Opening my eyes to see the who, what, when, and where of places and services where I can ameliorate for those in need is an essential start. That being said, I wanted to cover issues for families with children with exceptional needs, those in need of help with the provision of food, and the need for counselling for mental health, because total health includes body, mind, and soul.
Project Sample: Group Process, Simulated Group Presentation
This assignment was designed to support a peer group for children with developmental disabilities. I worked with my team of three other students to design and organize six well-timed, varied life skills sessions. Our goals were to build cohesion within the group and to identify activities and/or discussions to support the topics for each session.
One of my first artistic passions has always been telling stories – first to my children, and then to my grandchildren. Most exciting, though, was having some of my stories published. Through sales of my children’s books, I have been able to donate to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and have donated many books to libraries in Ontario and Quebec. I have had the privilege and enjoyment of travelling to read my books in person and share games with local children. I have also had the joy of receiving photographs from families who were sharing time reading together.
