Calli the Cat

My sweet kitten brought me an offering again. At least that is what I believe she is doing, the little hunter. Regularly, Calli, (named after the pretty blonde from CSI, and lovingly known as our Crime Scene Instigator), brings another chubby mouse into the front entrance, and devours every morsel of it, save one.

After consistently cleaning up and picking up one lone organ, I decided to research which part was being left for me. Unbelievably, it was the mouse’s heart! Cold and lifeless, it lay there, for me.

And so, I wondered if that is somewhat like me… Here, God. I have filled myself with what I wanted for the moment. You can have what is left of my life, my heart.

But my heart can be cold and lifeless, too.

In the winter deadness of my heart, the longing for a beautiful life taunts me and sends me hopeless thoughts…there is no visible beauty in my life circumstances…

Being very early spring, I look around and all I can see is dirt, mud, dead-looking trees…I breathe in the still cold air, and peer at grey skies…it sure doesn’t look too hopeful for signs of life!

But I know it is Spring! And history has taught me that soon the mud will dry up, the grass will be a lovely shade of green, and the trees will blossom with many wonderful colours of flowers and leaves, warmth will blow across my face, and the grey sky will turn to blue…no matter how hopeless it may appear to my eyes right now. Hope springs eternal!

Have hope, dear heart. GOD’S WORDS ARE also NOT DEPENDENT ON HOW I FEEL OR WHERE I AM IN LIFE!

And so, I speak aloud David’s words in Psalms, “God, make a fresh start in me,… Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails.”, and “Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God — Soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God!”

And this, this is a direct message from the Lord above:

I know the plans that I have for you….I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.” (Jeremiah 29)

Have faith, dear heart! Hope, not in what you see, but in confident expectation of what God promises. “I plan to give you hope and a good future.” Hope springs eternal…
